Direct Gifts
The easiest way to support the Nordson Green Earth Foundation is through a direct gift. This could be cash, property, or other assets donated directly to our organization. The advantage of this approach is its simplicity - no need for complex legal steps or intermediaries. You may also claim an income tax deduction for the fair market value of your gift, and if you donate appreciated assets, you could avoid capital gains tax. To donate online, please click here.

Gifts of Real Estate
Donating appreciated real estate - such as a home, vacation property, land, or commercial property - can be a powerful way to support the Nordson Green Earth Foundation.
Benefits of Real Estate Gifts:
-
Avoid capital gains tax on the sale of the property.
-
Receive a charitable income tax deduction based on the property’s value.
-
Leave a lasting legacy to support our mission.
How to Make a Real Estate Gift:
You can transfer ownership of your property to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation by signing a deed. You may donate part or all of the property, and the value of your gift is typically based on an independent appraisal of its fair market value.

Gifts of Stocks and Securities
Donating appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or other securities to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation can provide significant benefits, including a charitable tax deduction and potential avoidance of capital gains taxes. To initiate a securities transfer, please contact us at (312) 469-0178 or email to team@nordsongreenearth.org.

Donor-Advised Funds
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) offers a flexible way to support the Nordson Green Earth Foundation. You can donate assets to a DAF, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to us or other charities over time.
How a DAF works:
-
You make an initial, irrevocable donation of cash or stock to a DAF at a sponsoring organization.
-
The assets in your DAF grow tax-free.
-
Each year, you recommend how much and to which charities you want to distribute gifts from your DAF.
If you have any questions about Donor-Advised Funds, please contact us at (312) 469-0178 or email to team@nordsongreenearth.org. We're happy to assist and provide any information you need!

Charitable Bequest
You can make a bequest as a specific gift of cash or property, or by leaving a percentage of your estate's remainder, which offers more flexibility in planning. To include a gift to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation in your will, you can use the following language:
"I give to The Trustees of the Nordson Green Earth Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Chicago, Illinois, the sum of $_______ [or ______% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate] to be used for its general purpose."

Qualified Charitable Distribution
Individuals aged 70½ and older can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from their IRA directly to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation. The amount of the QCD is excluded from your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), so it’s not subject to income tax, though you won't receive an income tax deduction for the gift. If you’re 73 or older, you can use QCDs to satisfy some or all of your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), up to $105,000 in 2024.

Charitable Gift Annuity
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) with the Nordson Green Earth Foundation allows you to transfer assets in exchange for a lifetime income stream. In return, we provide fixed payments to you (or a designated beneficiary) for life, and after your passing, the remaining gift supports our mission. Given longer life expectancies, a CGA is a great way to support a cause you care about while securing income during your lifetime.
Benefits of a Charitable Gift Annuity
-
Receive fixed lifetime payments for you or a designated annuitant.
-
Get a charitable income tax deduction for the portion of your gift.
-
Enjoy payments that may be partially tax-free.
-
Support the mission of the Nordson Green Earth Foundation with your contribution.
How a Charitable Gift Annuity Works
A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a meaningful contribution to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation while receiving financial benefits.
-
You transfer cash or property to the Foundation.
-
In return, we provide fixed lifetime payments to you, with part of the payment possibly tax-free, depending on your age.
-
You’ll receive a charitable income tax deduction for the gift portion of the annuity.
-
Gain peace of mind knowing your gift supports our important environmental work.
A CGA can be funded with cash, securities, or even real estate, subject to our gift acceptance policies. Individuals aged 70½ or older can make a one-time distribution of up to $53,000 from their IRA to fund a CGA. This is treated as a Qualified Charitable Distribution and counts against the 2024 annual QCD limit of $105,000.
If you have any questions about Charitable Gift Annuities, please contact us at (312) 469-0178 or email to team@nordsongreenearth.org. We're happy to assist and provide any information you need!

Charitable Remainder Trust
A Charitable Remainder Trust allows you to transfer assets into a managed trust that provides payments to beneficiaries you name, either for life or a set period of years. You determine the payout rate, with a minimum of 5%, in consultation with your selected trustee. The trustee is responsible for managing the assets, handling tax reporting, and issuing periodic payments to beneficiaries.
There are two types of Charitable Remainder Trusts:
-
Charitable Remainder Unitrust
This trust pays beneficiaries a fixed percentage of the trust's value, which is recalculated annually. Payments are taxed based on the type of income the trust earns, and you can make additional contributions to the unitrust at any time. -
Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
This trust provides fixed annual payments based on the trust's value at the time it's established. Unlike the unitrust, additions to an annuity trust are not allowed.

Charitable Lead Trust
A Charitable Lead Trust is a great option for those looking to make a meaningful gift to the Nordson Green Earth Foundation while also addressing income or estate tax planning goals. One key benefit is that the gift is made upfront, allowing donors to see the immediate impact of their generosity. The trust holds income-producing assets for a set number of years or the lifetime of an individual, with annual payments - either a fixed amount or a variable amount based on trust performance - going to the Foundation. At the end of the term, the remaining trust assets are returned to the donor or passed to their heirs, such as children or grandchildren.

Name Nordson as a Beneficiary
A straightforward and impactful way to support the Nordson Green Earth Foundation is by naming us as a beneficiary of your retirement account, life insurance policy, or other financial accounts. This option doesn’t require changes to your will or trust, allowing you to keep full control of your assets during your lifetime while ensuring they benefit the charity after your passing.
